Hindu Creationism

[edit]

I realized that we had LOTS on Christian Creationism, A fair amount on Muslim Creationists, a little on Jewish Creationism, and really no proper article directly on Hindu creationism, so I figured why not? I do not claim it is a wonderful piece of scholarship. It is basically a crude start, but at least it is a start. Please edit away to fix my mistakes. I also put it in the creationism template.--Filll 19:33, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You should be aware that pretty soon, dozens of Hindutva wikipedians are going to descend on the article, and within minutes, the Hindu POV on the article is going to be 10 times the size of the scientific facts (which will get mauled beyond recognition). That's why I'm not about to do anything other than formatting changes. It's futile, simply because the likes of you and me are outnumbered 10 to 1. I wasted lots and lots of time in 2003, and have never made major contributions to any India/Hinduism articles since. Just a heads up. Thanks again for your effort. Arvindn 19:47, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow I had no idea. Well it will be an interesting experiment then.--Filll 19:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Caste

[edit]

I have no idea what the caste rules are, so I apologize if I stepped over a boundary. The reason I threw it in was I was reading his official biography (which I guess I should put a link to) and it was mentioned. I also thought it was important given some suggestions I have read that he is a prominent Hindu supremacist who is not well disposed towards lower castes.--Filll 19:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in that case it might merit inclusion, but only if it is mentioned in that context I guess. I don't remember where I saw this policy, but it seems to make common sense, don't you think? I was myself born into a caste, but it's not like I chose to do so, and having given up religion and all the crud that came along with it I would be rather offended if there were a wikipedia article about me and it mentioned caste. Help in nellore topic

[edit]

Please help me in Nellore topic. The user trueindian is simply replacing entire article with an old version that has lot of original research, personal opinionions and even poetic expressions. I had recently converted entire article into the style given in WP:INCITIES and WP:INDIST. I replied to him on talk and discussion pages many times. Is there a forum I can present this or can you help me educating him? I left messages to ganeshk and MERC-C, but both of them are on wiki break. Mlpkr 19:02, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I steadfastly refuse to get involved in India related topics :) (see above.) I suggest you point out WP:NPOV, WP:OR, WP:3RR and other relevant policies to the user in question if you haven't already done so. If they make wholesale reversions again I will help you rolling it back. Arvindn 01:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We presented that to one user earliear. But there are new users and some unkonw ips, and they are doing many times. Eithr bots and me are undoing changes all the time. Can we use sprotected to avoid some conflicts? mlpkr 17:58, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. If you continue to have trouble from more than one of the old accounts, please mark them with sockpuppet tags. If the sockpuppets together violate the 3RR, they can be blocked. Arvindn 22:11, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and sorry for dragging you. I was trying to understand, but looks like they are not yielding. mlpkr 18:29, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you can do unlock now. Thanks! mlpkr 14:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm a god. Just upgraded last week. Pretty expensive these days! Arvindn 08:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
May be irritating to Nellerean, but I could not control laughing at this sense of humour. Nellorean, he is just reverting personal opinions. Why do not you tell what is the information you think missing instead of blaming. We can discuss its inclusion. Please do that on discussion page of the article rather than bothering arvindn here. mlpkr 07:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the article covering LTTE

[edit]

Hi, just wanted to draw your attention to the current status of the article regarding the LTTE. I am trying to keep POV tags on it as it contains several statements that I consider poorly documented (LTTE involved in drug smuggling, forced prostitution and cooperation with Al Quaida). To make my position clear (as I also have done on the article's talk page) I am no friend of the LTTE - I consider their organisation in several ways have fascists and anti-democratic sides that I am strongly against. However I do believe that Wikipedia should be based on facts, not "talk on the town". I dont want to waste too much time over that article, but at least I will try to keep the POV tags from what I consider biased edits from sinhala chauvinists. If you could have a look and engage (or critizise me if I am wrong) I would be happy about that. Ulflarsen 06:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Asura

[edit]

I noticed your name on the Hindu Mythology WikiProject. I'm hoping you can take a look at Asura - I deleted a reference to two Asura "brothers" I couldn't find anything about (and also, I couldn't make sense of the sentence) named Sumbha and Nisumbha. I was hoping maybe you'd know something about them, or if they even existed in mythology; or that you know someone who does, at least. That way they can be added back in with proper citations. Also, I'm not sure about Maitreya Buddha being an Asura in Hinduism, nor Vairocana Buddha. I left a note on the Talk page also, about disambiguation - I don't know who has the authority to decide whether or not my suggestion should be acted on, and I didn't want to step on any toes. Thanks! --Dbutler1986 (talk) 04:03, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, Shumbha and Nishumba indeed exist, except someone left out the aitches. Google turns up plenty with the right spelling. Can't be of any more help, sorry. Arvindn (talk) 04:10, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problems created by a WP User...

[edit]

Hi Sir,

One user named AlexCovarrubias is typing untrue statements on the article Newly industrialized country. I corrected the information and put a note in the discussion section but he reverted them for no proper reason. He is a Mexican citizen and puts untrue information about Mexico in the article. I got the following facts from two very credible sources. The information is: 1) Mexico is classified as a developing country by the CIA World Factbook. Here is the source: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/appendix/appendix-b.html 2) The planning commission of Government of India classifies only 27.5% (and NOT 77%) of the population as the people under the national poverty line. I do not want some body to edit these data and type something amiss (wrong) about any country in particular- India. Please protect the articles- Newly industrialized country, Developing country, Iyengar, and Vadakalai. I will keep you posted of other articles that are subject to mishandling, posting the wrong information, and/or vandalism of any kind. Please prevent this person from making edits on Wikipedia (WP). Please protect the contents of WP. Awaiting your urgent attention and help in this regard. Thanks for your time. Svr014 (talk) 17:32, 5 June 2009 (UTC) Chicago, Illinois, USA.[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Arvindn! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 198 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Use of your image in Businessweek

[edit]

An image which you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons of Austin TX was recently used by the magazine Bloomberg Businessweek in an article entitled 'Best Places to Raise Your Kids'. The image appeared without attribution and did not mention that it may be reproduced under a Creative Commons license. I thought it would be helpful to notify you of this fact. Whoa, thanks! I'm curious how you found it.. was there wholesale infringement going on in that article? Are there automated tools for detecting this stuff these days? Arvindn (talk) 01:15, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article was original discovered by an experienced Wikipedian who recognised some of the pictures as being from Commons (thread here), but now there's a coordinated effort on Commons to go through the whole article and search for the pictures. There are automated tools such as TinEye and various similar commercial services which claim to be able to assist with investigating image usage, but in this case the whole job has been done by hard work alone. Although images may not need author information in un-controversial cases, or where an applicable source is provided, such information aids those making use of the image, and helps verify the copyright status of an image.

If possible, please consider updating the media information page to make the authorship (and or source) of this media clearer.

If the media is your own work, please consider explicitly including your user name or using the {{own}} template on the media information page.

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Arvindn,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 04:25, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
